Reclaiming Your Power in Pregnancy: A Guide to Feeling Strong and Confident

Let’s be honest—pregnancy can be a lot. The world likes to romanticise it as a glowing, blissful time, but the reality often feels much messier. Between the aches, exhaustion, and waves of self-doubt (and nausea), it’s easy to feel like you’re losing touch with the strong, vibrant person you were before those two little lines appeared on the test.

I’ve been there. My own pregnancies were far from smooth sailing. From emergency procedures and months of bed rest to postpartum complications, I experienced it all. At times, I felt like my body was betraying me, and I wrestled with fears I hadn’t known before. But through those moments, I realised something powerful: I didn’t have to stay stuck in those feelings. I didn’t have to let fear, doubt, or society’s expectations define my journey.

And neither do you.

Pregnancy isn’t just about creating a baby—it’s about stepping into a new version of yourself. It’s a transformative time, not just for your body but for your mind and soul. Reclaiming your power in pregnancy is about the art of surrendering to all of it—the beauty, the challenges, and the incredible strength that comes from bringing new life into the world.

Here are some ways to reconnect with your power during this transformative time:

1. Love Your Changing Body

Let’s start here, because this one can be tough. The changes in your body may feel foreign or even overwhelming, and it’s tempting to let negative self-talk creep in. But here’s the truth: your body is doing something extraordinary.

During my pregnancies, I had to completely redefine how I saw my body. When I was on bed rest, unable to move or exercise as I wanted, I felt disconnected from myself. But I made a choice to shift my mindset. I started practicing gentle exercise and stretches, even in bed, and reminded myself that my body was working hard to protect my baby.

You don’t have to love every change, but you can choose to appreciate what your body is doing. Celebrate it in small ways—through nourishing food, gentle movement, or even wearing something that makes you feel beautiful (yes, even with a bump). And take those pictures, because I promise you’re going to look back on them with complete awe.

2. Take Back the Narrative

Modern society doesn’t always do pregnant women justice. We’re often told what we should feel, look like, or do, and it can leave us doubting ourselves. But here’s the thing: your body already knows what to do. You don’t need to look outside yourself for validation—you just need to tune back in.

For me, this realisation was life-changing. During my pregnancies, I found strength in journaling and mindfulness. Writing down my fears and reframing them as opportunities for growth became a daily practice. When a fear would creep in—like whether I’d make it to full term—I would counter it with an affirmation: My body is strong. My baby is safe. I am capable.

Try this for yourself. Take time to sit with your feelings, honour them, and then remind yourself of your inner power.

3. Embrace Conscious Movement

Movement is more than just physical exercise—it’s a way to reconnect with your body and mind. Gentle, conscious movement can help relieve pregnancy aches, boost your energy, and prepare your body for birth.

When I was designing my TENTH MOON program, I made sure to include daily movement routines that are safe and empowering. Whether it’s a slow yoga flow, a pelvic floor-strengthening exercise, or just a mindful walk in nature, moving your body helps you feel grounded and in control.

4. Nourish Yourself, Inside and Out

Pregnancy nutrition isn’t just about eating for two—it’s about fueling your body in a way that makes you feel strong and energised. After all, you’re creating life, and that takes a lot of energy!

During my pregnancies, I sometimes found myself feeling so exhausted—especially during my bed rest period. But once I started focusing on simple, nutrient-dense meals, I noticed a huge difference in my energy levels. It doesn’t have to be complicated. A bowl of bone broth, a handful of nuts, or a pan-fried pasture raised steak cooked in raw butter can make a world of difference.

And remember, nourishment isn’t just about food. Feed your mind with positivity, surround yourself with supportive people, and indulge in moments of self-care, whether that’s a warm bath or curling up with a good book and a cup of herbal tea.

5. Trust Your Journey

Every pregnancy is different, just as every mother’s journey is unique. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach, and that’s okay. What matters most is that you trust yourself.

When I think back to my own pregnancies, I realise the moments I felt most empowered were the ones where I trusted my intuition. Even when things didn’t go as planned—when I had to have the emergency cerclage or faced a postpartum infection—I learned to listen to my body and advocate for what I needed.

Mama, you are your own greatest advocate. You know what’s best for you and your baby, even when the noise of the world feels overwhelming.

Step Into Your Power

Pregnancy isn’t just a physical journey—it’s an emotional and spiritual one, too. It’s a time to rediscover your strength, to honor the changes within you, and to step into the most powerful version of yourself.

You don’t need to have all the answers right now. But know this: you already hold everything you need within you. You are strong. You are capable. And you are absolutely incredible.
